Osteoporosis

Thinning and weakening of the bones.

Think you are too young for this topic? Think again.

Did you know that from birth to your 20's is bone development time? Yep, you've have assumed correctly now... in your 30's the decline starts - as per the medical journals. It may be scary to think that some of us hear this and wonder what our life is going be like as we age. I'm sure like you, I want to live well into my 90's fit and strong. So, is there hope? Yes. Osteoporosis is avoidable and reversible. The time to start doing something about it is now, whatever your age.

What's happening with our bones? Nutritionally the calcium in our diet may not be bioavailable or in layman's terms, easily digestible and absorbable. Or, what little is bioavailable is whisked away to other organs who need it more. Or, other elements in your diet, sugar is a huge culprit, will down right seek it out and destroy it in our bodies.

What can you do? Find a good source of calcium. Greens, nuts, seeds and raw goats milk are excellent sources of bioavailable calcium. Greens: dark leafy, tops of root vegetables, Kale is very high calcium. Nuts: Almonds are wonderful source of calcium. Seeds: Chia and sesame are also very high in calcium.

Next thing to do, is to cut acid or acid forming foods out of your diet such as sugar and cow's milk. Sugar has an affinity to calcium and burns up the calcium in our bodies. Cow milk's large fat molecule can not be absorbed by the body and considered foreign. Our body sends mucus to clean out foreign matter and a build up of mucus in the body changes to an acid that then again burns calcium in our bodies. For more information about sugar and our bodies, check out this informative book by William Dufty, "Sugar Blues".

Our bones are not the only parts of our bodies that need calcium. Calcium is a binder for all of our body tissues, including nerve tissues. It makes our tissues elastic or strong. It is responsible for movement and strength, mental activities, and the five senses. Ever wonder why no matter how much you diet and do sit ups, you still have a paunch? It's loss of calcium in your colon walls. They've started to lose their elasticity and strength to stay in their proper position - they are starting to sag.

Think of all the many organs in your body that need calcium to function properly that come higher on the hierarchy of survival than your bones. Your heart, the arteries, your lungs, your liver and the lists goes on, for without these organs working properly you would die. So, unfortunately our bones go without all their needed calcium. Compound that with the amounts of sugar and mucus causing foods in the typical American diet and non-bioavailable calcium sources and we can see why are bones are in desperate need of help.

What are some other things you can do?

Water, water, water: Water is wonderful at flushing toxins out of the body like acids and mucus. Make sure it is a clean, purified source. Carbon water filters are wonderful. If you haven't tried Kangen water before, it's worth the effort. Kangen water systems not only purify the water, they alkalize it too. Alkaline water will seek and attack acids in your body. Kangen water molecules are also smaller than normal water molecules making it even more bioavailable to your body meaning it brings with it more oxygen to your cells at an accelerated rate. There are other products available on the market that will turn your purified water alkaline as well. As much as I love taste, feel and attributes of Kangen water, you must choose what is right for you. If what you have is just clean, purified water it will do you all the good in the world too.

Essential Oils: Always make sure you have a completely pure source for essential oils. If not of good quality, you run the risk of wasting your money because it will not give you the results you are looking for and/or the additives can come with nasty side effects.

Birch Oil: is a bone builder. You can make your own capsules using 6-8 drops of olive oil or coconut oil and 4 drops of Birch oil. Take 1 capsule 3 times a day for two weeks then 1 capsule once a day for as long as you feel necessary.

I would normally say "treat yourself to" an Aromatic Body Technique but in this case, it may be just the thing to do. I learned first hand how amazing this technique and it's accompanying series of oils is. I have lived for over 20 years with lower back aches twice aggravated by separate injuries. The test results from the last injury found I had a severely herniated disk and had inherited my mother's degenerative disk disease . I had a chiropractor work on it and was able to get the pain to a manageable range. Then I found the magic of essential oils and the Aromatic Body Technique. After a week and a half with 3 separate Aromatic Body applications during that time, I was pain free and still am six months later.

Oatstraw & Shavegrass Tea: High in calcium it's a wonderful tea to drink warm or cold. Boil 2 quarts of water, turn off burner and steep equal parts Oatstraw & Shavegrass in a large tea ball for 20 minutes. When tea is cooled to the point where you can place a finger in it comfortably, add some raw honey to taste.

Green Smoothies: Greens are a powerhouse of calcium. Add some seeds to the mix and you can pack one powerful punch of calcium for your body.

The one thing I like about green smoothies is I can get a full day's serving of greens in one shot instead of eating a large salad. Now don't get me wrong here. Salads have their place. You need the roughage to scrape and clean the colon. So, eat your salads too. What I'm saying is smoothie some of them too. There is a lot to be said for breaking down the greens to a small enough particle, to open more fully the cells of the plant (where the nutrients are), to be more bioavailable to our body. Our teeth just can't do it. Or, maybe they can if you chewed each bite a hundred times or more. So, good thing there are so many ways to make green smoothies and so many books to help you get started. Soon enough, you'll be making up your own concoctions. Here is one I like:

3 cups water
1/8 cup chia seeds
1/4 cup sesame seed
3-4 stalks of any green (I like Kale) take out the center strip
2 cups frozen mixed berries or mixed fruit
half a lemon squeezed (this cuts the bitterness of the Kale)
agave nectar or raw honey to taste.

Victoria Boutenko's book "Green for Life" gives you a strong understanding of greens and what they can do for you along with a few of her favorite smoothie recipes.

Energy Work: Your body is energy and can heal itself with positive energy. There are times when negative energy such as negative emotions, thoughts, feelings can halt well-being and even take on physical form such as illness within the body.

On an emotional level, consider your thoughts and feelings surrounding Mental pressures and tightness. Muscles can't stretch. Loss of mental mobility. Change this around to a healthy affirmation: "I breathe in life fully. I relax and trust the flow and the process of life."

This and many more emotional release affirmations can be found in Louise L. Hay's book "Heal Your Body". Louise is the bestselling author of "You Can Heal Your Life".

Interesting that “mental pressures and mental mobility” are mentioned here. Remember earlier when I was talking about what calcium does for our body? It is responsible for mental activities. Adds another dimension to the phrase, “You are what you eat”.
Another of my favorites is Karol K. Truman and her book "Feelings Buried Alive, Never Die". For osteoporosis she notes: Feeling totally unsupported in life. Turn that around with positive thoughts: "I am supported. I am encouraged. I am defended." There are many energy/emotional clearing techniques available such as BodyTalk and EFT.

My two cents: It is better that we look within ourselves for support than to others. Others either can not do it for us or fall short to what we truly need. We have it within ourselves to do and be all that we need to be. Tell yourself to believe in yourself. Those affirmations said over and over or with the help of Karol K. Truman's script, can reclaim your power and set you back on the road to healthier life.
