Food Storage/Emergency Preparedness/Pandemic

One of my favorite sites on Emergency Preparedness comes from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints or more commonly, the Christian people known as Mormons. They have shown in the midst of crisis, they are a wealth of knowledge and support. They are organized and prepared and offer their expertise openly to members and non-members alike.

Here are a few links to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints' website where you can learn more about preparing yourself and your family for whatever may lay ahead.

Here is a link to a Food Storage Seminar that Mrs. DeWitt of Utah so generously offered in Salem last November.

Please feel free to share these with anyone who you know would like to continue to feed their families in an emergency/crisis situation.

To turn off the music, go down to the purple playlist on the right hand side of the page and click pause.

You can also watch the seminar on YouTube, just search "Wendy DeWitt". There are 9 total, the seminar was broken down to meet the YouTube requirements, but if you watch them all you are seeing the seminar in its entirety.

Flu Pandemic

There are a lot of scared people out there but there is no need. Yes, indeed, this warrants some concern and at this early stage, preparation and prevention is the key. You may want to check out my Veggie Bite on "Food Storage/Emergency Preparedness". This will help you prepare if it comes to having to stay home and out of contact for some period of time.

What of medicine? "They" say Tamiflu and a couple of other drugs are working but will there be enough to go around? What can you do to prevent and care for your family with alternatives?

Essential oils an effective alternative

Essential oils can offer an effective and yet safer and gentler alternative to antibiotics. With the rise of antibiotic resistant bacteria (MRSA) and new and stronger viruses (H5N1) which we call “super germs,” health practitioners in many countries have turned to essential oils for treatment of their patients. While many drugs have only one, two or three active ingredients, an essential oil may have several hundred compounds, Rose damascene has over 350 identified compounds along with many others that have yet to be identified. The complexity of the natural essential oil compounds is what renders their active ingredients safe when used according to aromatheraputic guidelines and what prevents the super germs from becoming resistant.

While essential oils have proven themselves through scientific examination to be effective in infectious diseases, one of their finest uses may be found in their ability to slow or render inactive pathogens and thus prevent a full blown infectious condition. We will look first at how we can use essential oils to protect ourselves and our families.
